Maren counted the candles twice before she let herself believe it: eleven, not twelve. Someone had been in the Hollow Court since dusk.
She did not call for the guard. In the Hollow Court a missing candle was a message, and messages were answered in kind.
The problem
Her eyes were grey in book two. By book four they were green.
Continuity breaks in the gap between the manuscript and the notes. You write in one place and keep the world in another — a spreadsheet, a wiki, a notebook — and the two drift apart in silence until a reader catches it. Codicis keeps the world inside the manuscript, so the entry for a character is one click from every line she appears in.

Every entry lists where it appears — scene by scene, in manuscript order. When something changes, you can see every line it touches.
Leave whenever you want
The whole project exports as readable Markdown with frontmatter — Obsidian opens it as is. Manuscript as DOCX and EPUB. A daily backup you can download. No lock-in, by design.

Questions
Honest answers
- Can I import from Scrivener or Word?
- Not yet. You can paste text into scenes, and Markdown formatting is recognized as you type. Importing DOCX and Scrivener projects is on the roadmap.
- Does it work offline?
- No. Codicis is a web app; it needs a connection to save. If a save fails, the editor warns you clearly and keeps your text until it can retry.
- Can I share a project with a co-author or beta readers?
- Not yet. Codicis is single-writer for now. Collaboration and reader comments are planned for a later version.
- Where is my data stored?
- On servers in the United States, encrypted in transit and at rest. You can export the whole project at any time, and a daily backup is kept for you to download.
- What happens if I stop paying?
- Your account becomes read-only. Nothing is deleted, and export stays available. Subscribe again and everything is where you left it.
- Do you use my writing to train AI?
- No. Never. There is no AI feature in Codicis, and your text is not used to train any model, ours or anyone else’s.
